Papers of the Townsend family of Medfield, Mass. The majority of the papers consists of letters among family members, including Jonathan, Gregory, and Jonathan's children, Sara (1754-1836) and Horatio Townsend. There are long series of personal correspondence between Sara and Mary (Greene) Hubbard, 1781-1807; among Horatio's children, Mary, Lucretia, Horatio, and Sarah; and between Sarah and various friends, 1802-43. The collection also includes a few deeds, indentures, and other legal documents and some genealogical information on the Greene and Townsend families. Other allied families represented in the collection are Allen, Greene (including letters from Nathaniel Greene to his daughter Anstis Greene Townsend), and Derby. Additional correspondents include Lucy Butterfield and Patty Metcalf.
